Adventures with The Nifty Fifty!

Ok, so most of you know I was in San Antonio last weekend with Fiskars and the Fiskateers. Let me tell you it was AWESOME!! I met 49 fabulous Fiskafriends as well as the wonderful folks from Brains on Fire and Fiskars, Our fantastic Fiskateer leads, Nancy from Cloud Designs, and Heidi Grace. It was an amazing weekend filled with inspiration, emotion, education, and fun. Friday started with a yummy dinner and a surprise from Fikars. We were all gifted with Orange felt hats, bearing our Fiskateer number, and a Craft Caddy from Fiskars. We also recieved a page kit featuring papers from Heidi Grace and an accordian album and embelishments from Cloud 9.

I love this LO of me and Dave. Cheryl is so great! I just lover her!

Heidi Grace is AMAZING! She's fun and creative, I love her! Holly is such a sweetie. I was so happy to meet her and become her friend.
We did some breakout exercises the first night that helped us define the DNA of a Scrapbooker. In this exercise we were asked questions about who we were, why we scrapped, who we are, and who we will become. It got me to thinking about why I scrap and what I want out of life. The questions asked in our fist session stayed with me the whole weekend. I have decided that I am a scrapper and crafter because I have no choice. Crafting is a part of who I am. It's like breathing or sleeping or eating. I don't just do it because I want to, but because I have to. I also reaffirmed that I am destined to be a part of the scrabook/ paper crafting industry. I have such a passion for this craft, and I learned I have an uncontralable passion to share my passion and knowledge with others. Every class I attended sparked more and more excitement about coming home and teaching my friends all I learned. It was amazing. I learned so much about myself, my friends and my passion known as scrapbooking.

CHALLENGE TIME!! Tell me why you scrapbook, or craft if you don't scrap. Simply leave me a comment here about why you scrap or craft. I will give you until November 16. I will draw 3 lucky winners to recieve a wonderful RAK from my weekend in San Antonio. I can't wait to here why you craft!

Hi Jessi! Love your blog! And Oooooh, that ring..... Congratulations!
I scrap to have a way to express myself. I love colors and textures and I get to print out bunches of pics of my beautiful children.
I'm sure I would live if I couldn't scrap, but I wouldn't be happy.

I really took a minute to think about this and not give the "typical" answer.
I now crop to leave a part of me behind when I pass away. I want my granddaughter to be able to remember things she might have forgotten as she has grown older. I want my daughter to be able to see things we have done together at any given time. I want them to remember the greatness of being alive and together.

its my artistic outlet. It hard to do the things I used to before I had a family. PAINTING, PHOTOGRAPHY, 2D and 3d art... pencil drawings or "playing" with clay... Being a mom and a active military wife in hubs career. I dont find much time to do the little things i love... so of course preserving my families moments and memories in life. I do this BC I can "play" with pictures and create art in a way that I know and feel touching different types of mediums getting exctied about learning a new technique... It reminds me of getting excited when I completed a painting the way I do a layout... If that makes much sense...

THANKS FOR REMINDING ME ABOIUT WHY I SCRAP!

It's just what I do; what I've always done. I think I craft because I love creating the design, and I love changing the design as I go, and I love seeing the ending. Most of the time, when I see a display, or a piece of material, or even the layout of a room, I'm thinking about the colors - the blocking - where would I put a picture - etc.

I started making cards 12 years ago...Then the craze of scrapbooking really kicked in! A neighbor gave me a stamped Christmas card and I fell in love at that time! It was wonderful to have something handmade knowing this person was thinking of me while making it! What a wonderful gift to give, the gife of a handmade item!!!

My best to you and all your bloggers!

Hi Jessi,

I scrap and craft because I love keeping my memories alive. I love looking at other peoples crafty work and I also like it when people enjoy looking at pictures. Scrapbooking my pictures has made my friends and family enjoy them more (I think anyways:P. Mind you they've never said they don't like it)

I started scrapping a little over 3 years ago after an auto accident left me unable to work again. I knew that I didn't want to become a couch potato and had to find something to keep my mind occupied. For some reason I picked up a scrapbook magazine & the rest is history. I've always loved genealogy & photography so it plays in nice with those two hobbies. Now I scrap to leave a part of me for my son to remember, the stories of his childhood so he'll always have those memories and to share the memories with family. For me scrapping is now a passion & it's also my sanity. It calms me when I'm stressed and fills a void where work used to be.

I craft for the joy of it. It seems like I've always been doing one craft. I always give handmade gifts. I just think they mean so much more than a store bought give. I love to make cards, and scrapbook. I love to bless people with the talents that God has given me.

Thanks so much for the chance to win.

I started scrapping about 6 years. I scrap because it takes away the plane look of a scrapbook pages.I find that you will look at a photo album more is the pages are embellished with a theme of somekind rather than just having the pictures on it.I scrap because it give me something to do and I enjoy doing it.

It seems like I have been crafting forever! I started sewing, then found quilting (fell in love!!!), then found card making and scrapbooking. I have been scrapbooking for less than a year - I was hooked immediately. My closets are full of shoeboxes of photos...so I finally decided it was time they were shared - displayed. I scrap because it is a creative emotional release...it's fun, and I love reliving & remembering the moments of the pictures :D

WOW....loaded question. I scrap for many different reasons. I scrap for me, because that is my selfish escape. I scrap for my children, so they will have my thoughts and feelings as they grow older. I try to put, in my pages, how I truly feel about them. I tell them all the time that I love them, but I want to them to know, without a doubt, that I loved them more than anything in this world.

Beautiful ring, by the way! Congratulations!!

This should be an easy answer - but it's not really. I have been scrapbooking for over 15 years now - since way before it was a hobby. I guess I have always been a scrapper - I always saved momentos and photos and drawings,etc.. This is a natural extension of my artisic abilities, I love art - I took every single Art class offered in H.S. I love to color - even today (though usually not with crayons). I have always loved paper and glue, I was always making something as a little girl. And Pictures, I have tons of them, I have been obsessed with documenting my life through pictures since I was like 10 yrs old. So for me scrapbooking makes sense - it combines everything I love to do and lets me be creative. That answer should be enough - but its not.......

To me scrapbooking is all about sharing your life, and leaving traces of yourself behind for the world to see. We tell a story in our pages, we evoke emotions in the beholder. I have grown to love the community of fellow scrapaddicts across the country that I encounter every day. I found an amazing group of women (a true circle of friends) online that share my passion. These ladies make me laugh, and cry, and they teach me to think outside of the box, and most importantly they inspire me everyday to "create". This bond we share is way more than just in papers, pictures, and glue -- we share our lives, our loves, our families, our hopes, dreams, and fears with each other. I believe that these ladies are in my life for a reason that goes way beyond the cute little "how we met" stories - they mean so much more to me than that. Is amazes me how I can feel closer to someone that I have never actually met - than to the people that I see nearly every day.

I never dreamed that my little hobby that started so long ago on my dining room table - would lead to this 'complete obsession' that makes me so genuinely happy!

I truely believe that crafting is in my DNA, my Nana taught me things like knitting, and cross stitching from a very young age and I have always done some form of craft - scrapbooking combines my love of stationery (can't go past a bookstore) with my love of photos and history.
I scrapbook both to releave the craftiness building up in me and also to tell the story of my life so that generations to come know what my life was all about, I miss not knowing what my greatgrandparents liked to eat, what their favourite toy was etc.

Wow, love the photos and looks and sounds like you had one amazing, learning experience. Awesome.

Well to be honest, I scrap because the look of sheer delight on my children's faces as they go through my work is priceless. This is my special gift to them.

Congrats Jessi on your engagement!
I scrap because of the memories and it is such a stress reliever! My own little personal "zone!" I also scrap because I love to meet new people and share techniques with each other. I love the end product.

Hey Jess, I guess the real reason I took up scrapbooking almost 6 years ago was because I wanted something more for my kids when I died than a box of photos.
We have moved every 2 years since 1988 and I have a book for each move, since my kids are 28 and almost 17 I wanted them to have the books as memories of everywhere we went and things we did.
I think the best gift you can give your children are great memories

Sounds like you had a great time! I mostly scrap to preserve the memories. And I'm sure that's heard a lot but it's very real. Already as my daughter grows older, I know some of those memories have slipped away. It's nice to have my albums to reminisce and to remember those times in our lives.

Sounds great! I'd love to meet Heidi Grace face to face too!

Why do I do scrapbooking and craft?
I've been creating since I was very little. My mum is a crafter too and so is my grandmother and so was my great grandmother. I guess its in the family blood line.

The reason I went from Painting and x-stitching to scrapbooking is that a friend told me about the new style of scrapbooking (from what I thought it was - magazine pictures, slapped into a news print book.) when my daughter was born and I have never looked back. lol its too addictive to stop!!! I still do painting every now and again and starting to incorporate it into my scrapbooking. I am thinking about x-stitching again too. ;)

Hey girly. My post on my blog today pretty much explains why I scrap. but short version..... to show my daughter how worth it she was and I wouldnt change it for nuttin... except maybe to watch her grow up and have children of her own :)

I scrap becuase I am scared by what I have already forgotten. I want to preserve my memories, and preserve my legacy and stories for future generations. Plus, I simply love beautiful things and it totally justifies hoarding paper becuase it gives me something to do with it all.
